On October 3, 2008, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) temporarily raised deposit insurance coverage limits from $100,000 to $250,000 per depositor. This coverage raise is guaranteed through December 31, 2009. Joint account coverage limits were also increased to $250,000 per co-owner.
